What is a Basket Centrifuge?

A basket centrifuge is a batch-operating machine that uses centrifugal force to separate solids from liquids. The product is loaded into a rotating drum (basket) with either a perforated or solid wall.

With a perforated drum and filter bag, liquids pass through while solids are retained – ideal for filtration, washing, and drying applications. With a solid drum, the centrifuge separates by decantation: heavier components settle against the drum wall while lighter liquid is removed via a peeling pipe.

How it works

The product is fed into the rotating drum through a filling pipe or funnel. During rotation, centrifugal force pushes the material outward against the drum wall. In filtration mode, liquid passes through the perforated drum and filter bag, collecting in the housing and draining via the outlet. Solids remain in the drum and are harvested manually after the cycle. Washing and drying steps can be added before discharge.

Frequently asked questions

A perforated drum with filter bag is used for filtration applications where liquid passes through while solids are retained. A solid drum is used for decantation/sedimentation where heavier particles settle against the drum wall and lighter liquid is removed via a peeling pipe.
